Oh, Those Resolutions

Oh, Those Resolutions

The year and the decade are over. I’m sure that there were good times and bad times to either enjoy or overcome. There was illness, weight gain, arguments and celebrations. That is, after all, life.

Let’s talk….

There are very few years, no matter how you simplify your life, that we don’t have stress, anger, disappointment or other negative things follow us into the next year.

I come from a family of worriers though I am not one myself. I married into a family of even bigger “disaster predictors”. The amount of time, conversation and emotion expended on something that hasn’t happened, makes me crazy.

I have read many books and articles on this and they really don’t help. You can’t change your personality so you therefore cannot actually control your reaction to things. So, let’s find a way to handle the negative stuff in our lives by doing the positive things to counteract them.

Exercise: daily endorphins are a big part of emotional health.

Avoid sugar: the highs and lows are not only physical but emotional.

Enjoy the support of others: a problem shared is a problem halved.

Get your sleep: it’s so much easier to handle anything when you are rested

Avoid social media:  or at least get rid of the people who upset you.

Help others: it’s amazing how other people’s problems can make yours seem small by comparison.

Don’t borrow trouble:  my father’s solution, enough said.

Ask the question: Is this going to matter 6 months from now?

These are the resolutions that will keep you healthy without adding more stress and guilt to your life.

Have a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
